Freshian Horse Farm

Horse Health Guarantee

Freshian Horse Farm is committed to transparent horse sales, responsible veterinary documentation, and clear health guarantee terms for buyers purchasing horses from our farm.

✚

Health Guarantee Applies Only to Written Horse Sales

This Health Guarantee applies only to horses purchased directly from Freshian Horse Farm and only to the extent stated in the buyer’s signed sales agreement, invoice, or written purchase confirmation. Horses are living animals, and no guarantee can predict future health, soundness, performance, or behavior.

Our Commitment to Equine Health

Freshian Horse Farm prioritizes responsible breeding, daily care, veterinary oversight, and honest disclosure when offering horses for sale.

At Freshian Horse Farm, the health and welfare of every horse is a top priority. We aim to provide horses that are healthy, well cared for, and accurately represented at the time of sale. This Health Guarantee explains the limited health-related assurances we provide, the veterinary documentation available, and the responsibilities of both Freshian Horse Farm and the buyer.

Horses are living animals. Their health can be affected by transportation, stress, diet changes, environment, exposure to illness, exercise, injuries, parasites, weather, management practices, and factors beyond the control of Freshian Horse Farm. For this reason, our health guarantee is limited, specific, and based on the horse’s condition and disclosures at the time of sale.

This guarantee does not replace a pre-purchase veterinary examination. Buyers are encouraged to arrange an independent pre-purchase examination with a licensed veterinarian of their choosing before completing a purchase. A pre-purchase exam evaluates the horse’s condition on the day of examination and helps identify risks relevant to the buyer’s intended use; it is not a guarantee of future health. [47][49]

By placing a deposit, signing a sales agreement, or completing a horse purchase, the buyer acknowledges that they have read this Health Guarantee and understands its terms.

What Freshian Horse Farm Guarantees

Our health guarantee is limited to the specific assurances listed below and subject to the terms of the buyer’s written sales agreement.

Unless otherwise stated in writing, Freshian Horse Farm provides the following limited health guarantee for horses sold directly by the farm:

  • Accurate identity: The horse is identified as accurately as possible by name, breed, sex, age, color, markings, registration number, microchip, or tattoo when applicable.
  • Lawful ownership: Freshian Horse Farm represents that it has the right to sell the horse and will provide available ownership or registration documentation.
  • Known condition disclosure: Known material health conditions, prior injuries, chronic issues, stable vices, and relevant medical history are disclosed to the best of the farm’s knowledge.
  • Visible health at sale: The horse is represented as being in generally good health and free from visible signs of infectious or contagious disease at the time of pick-up, unless a condition is specifically disclosed.
  • Available health records: The buyer receives available Coggins records, vaccination records, deworming records, veterinary records, and health certificate documentation according to the sale terms.
  • Transport readiness: When required for the buyer’s destination, the horse will have the necessary Coggins or health certificate documentation arranged according to the written sale agreement.
  • No undisclosed material misrepresentation: Freshian Horse Farm does not intentionally misrepresent a known material health condition, prior major surgery, or significant undisclosed unsoundness.

This guarantee applies only to conditions existing at the time of sale that were not disclosed and that could reasonably have been identified through the documentation and inspection process described in this policy.

Veterinary Examination & Pre-Purchase Exams

Buyers are encouraged to arrange an independent veterinary examination before completing their purchase.

Freshian Horse Farm welcomes pre-purchase veterinary examinations. A pre-purchase examination is an important opportunity for the buyer’s chosen veterinarian to assess the horse’s current health, conformation, movement, soundness, and suitability for the buyer’s intended use.

Buyers may arrange an examination with a licensed veterinarian of their choice before placing a deposit or before the horse leaves Freshian Horse Farm. The buyer is responsible for scheduling and paying for the examination unless Freshian Horse Farm expressly agrees otherwise in writing.

A pre-purchase examination may include a physical examination, evaluation at rest, movement assessment, flexion tests, lunging or ridden exercise where appropriate, review of identification documents, and additional diagnostics such as bloodwork or radiographs if requested. The scope of the examination is determined by the buyer and veterinarian. [47]

A veterinary examination assesses the horse’s condition on the day it is performed. It cannot guarantee future soundness, performance, fertility, behavior, or freedom from future illness or injury. [47][49]

If a pre-purchase examination identifies a material undisclosed condition that materially affects the horse’s suitability for the buyer’s stated purpose, the buyer must provide written veterinary findings within the claim deadline stated in this policy and the sales agreement. Freshian Horse Farm will review the documentation and may offer a resolution such as a refund, replacement horse, credit, or other remedy at the farm’s discretion.

Coggins, Health Certificates & Vaccinations

Required travel documentation depends on the horse’s destination, transporter requirements, and applicable regulations.

Freshian Horse Farm will provide available Coggins and health documentation according to the terms of the individual sale. A Coggins test screens for equine infectious anemia, while a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection, commonly called a health certificate, documents that a licensed veterinarian examined the horse and found no visible signs of infectious or contagious disease on the examination date. [49][50]

Buyers are responsible for confirming the exact requirements for their destination, including Coggins validity periods, health certificate timing, import permits, brand inspection requirements, vaccination rules, and any additional documents required by the receiving barn, transporter, state, or country.

Requirements vary by location and can change. Buyers should contact their veterinarian, transporter, and destination facility before scheduling pick-up. Waiting until the day of pick-up to confirm travel requirements can delay loading or transportation.

If Freshian Horse Farm arranges veterinary paperwork at the buyer’s request, the buyer agrees to pay any associated veterinary, laboratory, mileage, administrative, or documentation fees. These charges are separate from the purchase price and must be paid before the horse is released.

Available Documentation May Include

  • Current or recent Coggins test results, when available.
  • Certificate of Veterinary Inspection or health certificate, when required and arranged.
  • Vaccination records, including available dates and products used.
  • Deworming and parasite-control records, when available.
  • Veterinary treatment history, when available.
  • Registration papers, passport, microchip records, or breed association documents, when applicable.

What Is Not Covered

This health guarantee does not cover future illness, injury, management issues, or conditions arising after the horse leaves Freshian Horse Farm.

Because horses are living animals, Freshian Horse Farm cannot guarantee future health, soundness, performance, temperament, fertility, or freedom from injury or illness. The following conditions and situations are excluded from this Health Guarantee:

  • Illness, injury, lameness, colic, infection, or death occurring after the horse leaves Freshian Horse Farm.
  • Conditions caused by transportation stress, trailer accidents, improper hauling, or injuries during travel.
  • Conditions caused by inadequate feed, water, shelter, fencing, turnout, parasite control, or veterinary care after pick-up.
  • Normal changes in weight, body condition, coat quality, fitness, muscle development, or appearance.
  • Behavioral changes, training setbacks, spookiness, herd-integration issues, or performance concerns arising after pick-up.
  • Future fertility, breeding success, conception, pregnancy maintenance, or foal health, unless a separate written breeding guarantee is provided.
  • Conditions specifically disclosed in writing before purchase, including known injuries, chronic conditions, stable vices, prior surgeries, or relevant medical history.
  • Minor issues that do not materially affect the horse’s health, usability, or suitability for the buyer’s stated purpose.
  • Costs for veterinary care, medication, farrier work, transportation, boarding, training, or loss of use after pick-up.
  • Claims submitted after the applicable deadline or without the required veterinary documentation.

A health certificate is not a warranty of future health. It confirms that the horse showed no visible signs of infectious or contagious disease during the veterinary examination on the certificate date. [50]

How to Submit a Health Guarantee Claim

Health-related concerns must be reported promptly, in writing, and with appropriate veterinary documentation.

If the buyer believes a horse has an undisclosed material health condition covered by this guarantee, the buyer must contact Freshian Horse Farm in writing within 72 hours of pick-up, unless a different deadline is stated in the signed sales agreement.

The claim must include the buyer’s name, purchase date, horse identification details, invoice or sales agreement number, a clear description of the concern, photographs or video where relevant, and a written statement from a licensed veterinarian when applicable.

Freshian Horse Farm may request that the horse be examined by a licensed veterinarian chosen or approved by the farm. The buyer agrees to make the horse available for reasonable follow-up examination and to provide complete veterinary records related to the claim.

Freshian Horse Farm will review the claim after receiving the required documentation. Possible outcomes may include a refund, replacement horse of comparable value, credit toward another horse, veterinary cost contribution, or another remedy agreed upon in writing. The farm is not obligated to provide a refund for claims that do not meet the requirements of this guarantee.

If a claim is approved and involves return of the horse, the horse must be returned in the same or comparable condition in which it left Freshian Horse Farm, free from new injuries, illness, neglect, significant weight loss, or unauthorized alterations. Return transportation arrangements and costs will be determined according to the written agreement and the nature of the claim.

Claim Requirements

  • Written notice within 72 hours of pick-up, unless a different deadline is stated in the sales agreement.
  • Invoice, receipt, or signed sales agreement number.
  • Clear description of the alleged undisclosed condition.
  • Photographs, video, or veterinary records where available.
  • Written statement from a licensed veterinarian when required.
  • Reasonable access to the horse for follow-up examination if requested.

Buyer Responsibilities After Pick-Up

Proper after-purchase care is essential to protecting the horse’s health and preserving any applicable guarantee rights.

Once a horse leaves Freshian Horse Farm, the buyer becomes responsible for its ongoing care, management, and veterinary needs. To support a smooth transition and protect the horse’s wellbeing, buyers should follow responsible ownership practices from the day of pick-up.

  • Provide clean water, appropriate forage, and a balanced diet suitable for the horse’s age, workload, and condition.
  • Provide safe shelter, secure fencing, clean bedding where applicable, and appropriate turnout or exercise.
  • Introduce new feed, turnout, herd members, and routines gradually to reduce stress.
  • Schedule routine veterinary care, dental care, farrier care, vaccinations, and parasite control as recommended by a licensed veterinarian.
  • Monitor the horse daily for changes in appetite, water intake, manure output, behavior, movement, breathing, or body condition.
  • Contact a licensed veterinarian promptly if the horse shows signs of illness, injury, colic, lameness, fever, or distress.
  • Keep all veterinary, vaccination, deworming, and health records organized.
  • Follow biosecurity practices when introducing the horse to a new barn or herd.

Failure to provide reasonable care may affect the outcome of a health guarantee claim, especially where a condition could have been caused or worsened by inadequate management after pick-up.

Disclosed Conditions & As-Is Sales

Some horses may be sold with disclosed conditions or on an as-is basis when clearly stated in writing.

Freshian Horse Farm may offer horses with disclosed conditions, prior injuries, chronic management needs, or other relevant health history. When a condition is disclosed in writing before purchase, it is not considered an undisclosed condition for purposes of this Health Guarantee.

Certain horses may be sold “as is,” “as-is with disclosed conditions,” or with a limited warranty. These terms must be clearly stated in the horse’s listing, invoice, or signed sales agreement. In an as-is sale, the buyer accepts the horse in its present condition, subject only to disclosures and any written guarantees specifically included in the agreement.

Buyers should review all available veterinary records, photographs, videos, and disclosures before placing a deposit. Questions should be asked before purchase, not after the horse has been released.

If a buyer wants additional assurance, we recommend arranging an independent pre-purchase veterinary examination and discussing any concerns with the examining veterinarian before completing the sale. [47][49]

Health Guarantee FAQs

Common questions about veterinary exams, Coggins, health certificates, and health claims.

Does Freshian Horse Farm guarantee a horse will remain healthy forever?

No. Horses are living animals, and no seller can guarantee future health, soundness, performance, fertility, or freedom from illness or injury. Our guarantee is limited to the terms stated in this policy and the buyer’s written sales agreement.

Can I have my own veterinarian examine the horse?

Yes. Buyers are encouraged to arrange an independent pre-purchase veterinary examination before completing the purchase. The buyer is generally responsible for scheduling and paying for the examination.

Does a health certificate guarantee the horse is healthy?

No. A health certificate confirms that a licensed veterinarian examined the horse and found no visible signs of infectious or contagious disease on the examination date. It is not a guarantee of future health. [50]

What is a Coggins test?

A Coggins test is a blood test for equine infectious anemia. Many states, transporters, and boarding facilities require a current negative Coggins test for horse movement or boarding. Requirements and validity periods vary by destination. [49]

How quickly must I report a health concern?

Unless your signed sales agreement states a different deadline, health-related concerns must be reported in writing within 72 hours of pick-up.

What happens if a claim is approved?

Depending on the circumstances, Freshian Horse Farm may offer a refund, replacement horse, credit toward another horse, veterinary cost contribution, or another written resolution.
